The journey of becoming an entrepreneur began when my son Lucas was born. After years of hearing friends and family tell me that I should become a family portrait photographer, I decided to put there suggestion to the test. That is how Capture Joy Photography was born. It is my desire to capture the precious smiles, those contagious belly laughs and the moments we live for in everyday life.

I try to keep a photo session as light and fun as possible. My galleries are a mix of traditional poses and candid moments to showcase the love that your family shares. To keep the little ones entertained, I incorporate playful games which also allow for those precious contagious smiles and belly laughs. What toddler listens when told, "Ok honey, sit still and smile for the camera?" Well, at least not mine!

Our family are avid fans of almost any outdoor activity. Most weekends you can find us with Lucas on papa's shoulders climbing a hillside and mama close behind, camera in her hand. We enjoy spending time with our respective families, volunteering in a neighborhood church and enjoying company with friends.

Sweet Nothings & Soft Kisses

ROMANCE

Why heirloomWall Art?

This idea came to me from my own childhood.  Growing up, the living room wall in our home was plastered with family photos. I'm talking a 20 foot wall COVERED in family kisses, hugs and adventures. Each day we saw those special moments frozen in time and it brought joy to our hearts. That is why I made it my passion to create stunning heirloom artwork for my clients. To bring that same joy to their hearts and homes as it did for our own family.

Prior to becoming a professional photographer, I was a Licensed Clinical Social worker for over a decade.  I had always been passionate about photography, but didn't know if it really mattered or if I could connect with others in the same way I could in my "real" job.

Until photography mattered more than I could have ever imagined.

In March of 2021, My husband and I lost our oldest child at a month old.  In the days after he passed, I would stare at the photos of the sweet memories we had made together over the last 36 days.  Overnight, family photos became my everything.

I believe the most important lesson my son taught me was to embrace the joy of the moment and let go of fear for the future.  It was a hard life lesson to learn, that time slips to quickly through our finger tips.  We all have personal stories of how we have individually been taught this hard lesson. That is why our phones are filled with photos that we want to remember 5, 10, 15 years from now.  Which brings me to my second important point.

This is rapidly becoming the digital generation.  With everyone having a digital phone in their pocket, are family portraits still important? In a word, Yes. Family portraits are not meant to live on your phone or hard drive.  They are meant to be displayed prominently and visibly. They are what makes a house a home, by showing the bond and love you share.  When I hung up my shingle as a professional photographer, I also made it my mission to ensure your portraits don't stay on a computer or phone, but get hung on your walls to enjoy ever day.
