Last weekend, we wrapped up the “You Are My Sunshine” sunflower sessions—and I’m still smiling (and maybe still recovering from the 110° heat index!). It was hot, humid, and thunder threatened from the edges—but somehow, that just made the joy shine even brighter.
Seven incredible families joined me in the sunflower fields at Great Country Farms, and three more met me on other days in different locations. Altogether, we raised $1,700 for Divine Mercy Care, helping provide prenatal care to women who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it. That number is more than just dollars—it’s a direct impact on real lives. Special thanks to Kathryn Doherty, a DMC board member, who was my photography assistant during on of the hottest weekends this year.
But beyond the fundraising total, what happened in those fields was something deeper.
Thank You, Great Country Farms
This event simply wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Great Country Farms. Their team went above and beyond to support this mission—offering not just access to their stunning sunflower fields, but also donating a season pass to be auctioned off to support Divine Mercy Care. Their kindness, flexibility, and commitment to giving back made every moment of this event feel deeply supported and truly special. Special thanks to Staci Collins, there event coordinator
Tiny Moments, Big Magic
The sunflowers this year were bold and bright, bursting against the blue sky and catching the golden hour light just right. Kids danced through the fields with bubbles floating in the wind, juice boxes in hand, sticky fingers, wild hair, and pure joy.
There were so many moments I’ll never forget:
a pair of siblings throwing their arms around each other and shouting, “I love this farm!”
Laughter echoing between rows of blooms while thunderstorms brewed in the distance.
Parents wiping sweat and smiling anyway, soaking up the chaos and connection of the moment.
Two sisters holding hands, locked in a serious (but giggly) competition over whose dress could twirl the biggest.
It wasn’t posed or polished—it was real. Beautifully, messily, joyfully real.
Why It Matters
This wasn’t just about photos. It was about remembering, honoring, and giving back. Every session was rooted in the memory of our son Mateo and the love and care our family received through Divine Mercy Care’s perinatal hospice program.
That care gave us space to grieve, to love, and to hold on to our son’s memory. These sunflower sessions are one small way we’re paying that forward—by giving other women and families access to the same kind of compassionate support.
Until Next Time
To everyone who showed up, sweated through the heat, laughed in the face of humidity, and gave from the heart—thank you. These images are already special, but the stories behind them? Even more so.
We made something beautiful together.
See you next summer. 🌻
