There’s something truly special about multi-generational sessions. They’re not just about photographs—they’re about weaving together the stories of where a family has been and where it is going. This session at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia, was filled with laughter, love, and the kind of candid moments that will be treasured for years to come.

Why This Session Was Extra Special

The grandmother is a dear family friend who has known me since childhood, so photographing her family felt like an incredible honor. Recently, she and her husband had portraits taken in Idaho with their other son’s family. Wanting artwork that would match on their walls, she asked me to capture the same for their Virginia family. Since it was late spring, Meadowlark—with its endless blooms—was the perfect setting.

A Garden Full of Beauty

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens never disappoints. The hydrangea bushes were full and vibrant, the bridges wound gracefully through the woods, and every turn revealed something new in bloom. The gardens gave us endless backdrops—from a quiet pond tucked under an oak tree to flower-lined paths that made the perfect playground for the kids.

Lifestyle, Laughter, and Love

This family wanted their session to feel relaxed and natural, and the kids brought that vision to life beautifully. They strolled through the gardens, posed sweetly by towering trees, and even broke into a playful game of tag. The grandparents watched with joy as their grandchildren explored, smiling at the energy and laughter filling the air. My favorite moments came during the silly, candid shots—the ones where the children’s personalities shined through in the best way.

At the end of the evening, we had a collection of portraits that not only showcase the natural beauty of Meadowlark Botanical Gardens but also the warmth of this family. These photographs will soon hang alongside the Idaho portraits, uniting both sides of the family in heirloom artwork that celebrates their legacy.
